Otomo’s work blows everyone away.

Dude-Morphing-Into-Monster:  Oh shit don’t shoot, figure out a way to change me ba—

Kurono:  Nah fuck that.

From Higurashi No Naku  (English: When Moths Cry), wonderful video game series adapted into a manga.  The art is the sub-standard, favoring the stereotypical anime look but I feel it uses this to its advantage to fool the reader into walking unknowingly into some disturbing, fucked-up climaxes.

Worth the time to read, trust me—Once you get passed the facade you can enjoy this series for what it really is:  A mind-altering look at high school friendship and murder.

Just Finished Catching Up With All 345 Chapters of Gantz

These Gantz  title pages make me feel funny.

Probably one of the most scarring and disturbing two pages I have ever come across in comics.

Gantz will change your life.

Gantz Chapter 160

If you prefer Naruto over One Piece,

You’re seriously fucking up.

The concept of Go Nagai’s Devilman Lady and Violence Jack really astound me.  The downfall of a sequel is having all the same things happen again and Nagai’s approach to creating sequels to the legendary Devilman are incredibly unique.

1973’s Violence Jack is just that, Jack being violent:  But the twist reveals that the world that Jack inhibits is actually God’s reincarnation of the Devilman Earth after its destruction, and Violence Jack is Devilman himself—Back to continue his ongoing battle with Satan.

Devilman Lady is even weirder, turning a remake into something wholly unique.  Imagine if Devilman was a supermodel instead of Akira Fudo, that pretty much sums the concept up but Nagai instead chooses to create something completely different this time around— Its plot having way too many differences to count.

Sequels are usually lame, but it’s inspiring to see an artist going out of his way to make something completely different despite what his fans expect rather than recycling the same old shit over and over again because it makes money.

On top of that, the post-apocalyptic-crazy costumed-biker-gang-tinged world of Violence Jack came out in 1973!  Presupposing Mad Max, Akira, Fallout, and many others convincing me of its importance.

Go check out Go!  The guy’s incredible, a think-machine of gorey metaphorical manga that is incredibly subtle with its facade of children’s action comics when it comes to its message.

Go Nagai. Devilman. Violence Jack.

Google dat shit.

Anyone ever partaken in 1972’s Devilman?

Probably the best manga I’ve read besides Akira or Tezuka’s Pheonix: Future.

(Google it.  You can easily find all four volumes of scans translated due to its popularity.)
